DBS Checks

A Basic DBS check is a criminal background investigation that can be performed for anyone, including employment. The Basic DBS certificate will include information concerning convictions and conditional warnings that are allegedly still unresolved. 

Standard DBS Checks, also referred to as Standard Disclosure Checks and Barring Service Checks, are the mid-level of DBS Checks that are available. It is typically necessary for jobs in financial services, security, public buildings, and healthcare facilities where there may be incidental contact with vulnerable groups. Only positions exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 are eligible for this degree of screening, which in England and Wales may only be requested by a corporation, not an individual. 

The highest degree of criminal background checks available in the UK is an Enhanced DBS check. It displays a candidate’s whole criminal history, including any cautions, suspensions, warnings, spent and unspent convictions, as well as any other pertinent data located in local police records.

An enhanced DBS check with barred list is the highest level of criminal record checks in the UK. It shows details from the individual’s criminal record such as cautions, reprimands, warnings, spent and unspent convictions. It is meant to check if the individual is on the Disclosure and Barring Service’s children and adults barred lists i.e., a list of people that are barred from working with children or vulnerable adults.
