What is BPSS Screening?
The level of screening required for anyone working for or on behalf of a government department is known as the BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard). In order to help reduce the risk of identity fraud, illegal immigration, and general national security, BPSS checks were developed.
Anyone who has access to government property as part of their job is required to implement these personnel security measures. Every effort must be made to meet the baseline personnel security standard; however, if this is not possible, the risk must be managed, and the data must be recorded for audit purposes.
Why is BPSS Screening necessary?
The government views BPSS checks as an essential safety measure to confirm an individual’s identity (as an employee or contractor) and their eligibility to work in the UK. These screenings are essential when applying for government contracts or jobs that are related to the government and they provide a certain level of assurance regarding the people’s dependability, honesty, integrity, and values required for the job position. BPSS checks lessen the risks posed by individuals handling potentially sensitive data.
